Certification Support

Practical support to prepare your management system for independent ISO certification.
Understand the purpose, scope and responsibilities before you begin.

What should you know before seeking ISO certification?

ISO certification may be relevant to a contract, procurement requirement or management-system improvement goal. Confirm the standard, activities, sites and scope required before investing in preparation. Work Safety Hub helps you assess gaps, develop practical systems and prepare evidence for an independent certification process.

Does Work Safety Hub conduct certification audits?

No. Work Safety Hub provides advisory, implementation and readiness support. We do not conduct certification audits or issue ISO certificates. The organisation selects an independent certification body, which conducts its certification audit and makes the certification decision.

Which standard do you need?

Clarify whether the requirement concerns ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety, ISO 14001 for environmental management, ISO 9001 for quality management, or an integrated system. Applicable WHS or OHS duties should be addressed in the engagement scope alongside the selected standard. Do not assume that a reference to “WHS certification” identifies a particular certification scheme.

Does certification guarantee legal compliance?

No. Certification assesses a management system against specified requirements; it does not remove the organisation’s legal duties or guarantee that every activity complies with the law. Work Safety Hub’s preparation support does not guarantee certification, tender success or a legal-compliance outcome.

What should you agree before work starts?

Agree the system scope, review criteria, sites and activities, deliverables, client inputs, exclusions and evidence needed. Confirm certification-body fees and audit arrangements separately, and allow time to implement changes and address remaining findings before the external audit.

See ISO’s guidance on certification and certification bodies.

Our Certification Support Services

Gap Analysis

Review existing arrangements and selected evidence against the agreed ISO requirements and applicable WHS or OHS obligations. Identify strengths, gaps and priorities, with the scope and limitations recorded.

System Development and Refinement

Develop or refine procedures, responsibilities and tools around your operations, risks and people. Agree deliverables and implementation actions rather than relying on documents alone.

Internal Audits

Review selected implementation evidence against agreed criteria and report findings, sampling limits and unresolved actions. Where we have helped design or implement the system, disclose that involvement and any limits on independence. An internal review is separate from the certification audit.

Corrective Action Support

Help your team investigate gaps or non-conformances, plan corrective actions and assemble evidence for follow-up review. The organisation assigns owners and implements actions; the certification body determines how findings from its audit are closed.

Certification Preparation and Auditor Liaison

Where included in scope, help organise evidence, prepare teams and coordinate responses to the certification body. Audit arrangements, information-sharing authority and each party’s role should be agreed in advance. Certification decisions remain with the independent certification body.

Preparing for an ISO Certification Audit?

Discuss your system scope, current gaps and the preparation support you need.
Prepare, implement and review before the independent certification audit.

Preparing for Independent ISO Certification

We work with your team through the preparation activities agreed for your engagement. The certification body manages its own audit and certification process.

1. Initial Review and Gap Analysis

Confirm the intended standard, certification scope, sites and activities. Review current arrangements and selected evidence to identify priorities, client inputs and exclusions.

2. System Design or Alignment

Develop or refine the agreed system elements with leaders and workers. Clarify responsibilities, practical controls and how implementation evidence will be collected.

3. Implementation Support

Support teams to put changes into practice through guidance, engagement and training where included in scope. The organisation provides resources, assigns owners and manages implementation.

4. Pre-Audit Review

Review selected documents, records and evidence of implementation against agreed criteria. Report the sample reviewed, findings, limitations and remaining actions. A readiness review does not predetermine the certification result.

5. Audit-Day Support

If agreed, help your team locate evidence and respond to auditor queries during the external audit. The certification body controls the audit and makes its certification decision; the organisation remains responsible for its system and responses.

Simplify the Certification Process

Certification support that fits your industry, risks, and goals.

Tailored to Your Industry and Risk Profile

Preparation should reflect your operations, risks and existing management system. Agree which sites, activities, shifts and contractor interfaces are in scope, and the evidence needed to assess implementation.

For construction, manufacturing, logistics, renewables or healthcare operations, consider the critical risks and the people who need to use the system. Worker and leader input helps identify where documented arrangements differ from everyday work.

Set realistic preparation milestones around access to records, worker availability, implementation effort and remaining findings. Timing and certification-body arrangements should be agreed for the engagement; there is no single preparation timeframe that fits every organisation.

Trusted expertise. Practical systems. Partners in real safety improvement.

Why Work Safety Hub?

Work Safety Hub provides practical management-system advisory, gap analysis and implementation support. Our approach involves leaders and workers so the system reflects the operations it needs to support.

Our published Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre case study describes an initial review, detailed gap analysis, applicability analysis, system development and implementation support towards ISO 45001 conformance. It is evidence of preparation support, not certification auditing by Work Safety Hub.
